Archivist and Chicks Dig Time Lords co-editor Lynne Thomas joins me as we discuss the merits of the frequently-derided first season of Torchwood — thus bucking the conventional wisdom that it only "got good" with Children of Earth. Lynne contributed her essay on the subject, "Camp Noir," to Graeme Burk and Robert Smith?'s anthology Time Unincorporated 3.

Resuming our Throwback Reviews, we go back to the eighth episode of the 2005 revival of Doctor Who, "Father's Day" by Paul Cornell. (It's an interesting time to watch one of Christopher Eccleston's stories, after his recent remarks about his time on the show were repeated by Martyn from the Bad Wilf podcast.)

Thanks to a blogger conference call hosted by Starz and BBC Worldwide Productions, I had the chance to ask Russell T. Davies why he thinks Torchwood caught fire in the United States. Earlier, Jef Burnham from filmmonthly.com raised a question I also asked in 2MTL 219: what's the future relationship between Doctor Who and Torchwood?
